Worth knowing
- The Wieliczka Salt Mine has produced salt since the 13th century. Over 300 m deep, more than 200 km of passages. Showpiece: the underground Chapel of St. Kinga. About 800 steps; cool underground (mid-50s°F).
- Main Market Square (Rynek Główny) is one of the largest medieval squares in Europe, with the Renaissance Cloth Hall at its center.
- St. Mary's Basilica is famous for Veit Stoss's carved wooden altarpiece and the hejnał — a trumpet call sounded every hour and cut off mid-note.
- Schindler's Enamel Factory is the actual factory where Oskar Schindler saved about 1,200 Jews; now a museum.
